| ok i am going to try to post once a month on my xanga, so i've decided i am going to make my top ten lists. all of these things are just personal opinions, but on stuff i personally like.
first of all...the dave mann top ten must read list
Moneyball by Michael Lewis- book about baseball, but it's really about changing the way success is evauluated. How to Get Rich by Donald Trump- Some people try to be super spiritual and ask if God really wants to make us all rich. No, but he wants us to be disciplined, work hard, and be relevant, which is essentially what this book is about. The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene- Guilty pleasure. Share Jesus Without Fear by William Fay- Without this book, i wouldn't have cared about sharing the Gospel and seeing my friends get saved, so i wouldn't have cared when kyle finn told me i needed to hear his crazy new youth pastor who wanted to take fort wayne for God named chilly chilton... Taliesin by Stephen Lawhead- favorite novel, hands down. it's the beginning of arthurian legend too which i really like. Double Your Dating by David DeAngelo- No comment. I'll just clasify this under the "changes your thinking" category. and yes you can laugh at me now Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis- Pretty much sums up every aspect of spiritual warfare in a very easy to read yet still incredibly deep way. Favorite book by my favorite author. Provocations by Soren Kierkegaard- I'm convinced he's the smartest person to ever live. Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Album- One of those things that totally makes you reevaluate what's important in life. Critias by Plato- While i disagree on most of his philosophy, he gives it in layers through stories which is just brilliant.
So there it is..most of it is on how to change your thinking, some of it is just lame. You decide for yourself.

| so today i was at the mall of america by myself (don't ask why, i'm not really sure myself...) when i came to a striking realization that hit me like a ton of bricks. i was buying dress clothes, with "How to Get Rich" by Donald Trump in my pocket, drinking regular coffee, and listening to AC/DC on my ipod when i realized......... i'm becomming ryan kreger. i could try and deny it, but it's useless. i'm literally walking through bloomingdales asking myself "is this something kreger would wear/spend this much money on?" if the answer is no, it would immediately be disregarded. i've bought two donald trump books just this week. just about every phrase i use is something that started with kreger. my movie tastes match his. my music tastes match his (except country, which i still can't do). immitation is the highest form of flattery, but this is getting borderline ridiculous. if a dye my hair red and start talking about living in the country, someone please kill me. | | |
| okay i kinda thought i was done with the whole xanga thing (other than reading people's posts about once a month or so), but something happened that was unquestionably blog worthy. now first, i need to define blog worthy before i continue with the story, seeing as though i do not have many blog worthy events happen in my life. a blog worthy event is one that is a.) unexpected, b.) funny, c.) someway related to calvary temple. therefore it can only be truly appreciated by a small handful of people on the planet, which is exactly the point. therefore, finding something that fits all three criterion is very difficult in minnesota, hence why i no longer blog. but last thursday afternoon i got a phone call that changed my life...(not really, but i need to build suspense)
last thursday and friday at north central is what is called college days. it's where juniors and seniors in highschool come to north central to see the school and stay in the dorms and go to classes to see if they want to go here. well college days is a huge annoyance to every student, because we all just love having highschoolers crammed into our already crammed rooms. it's just awesome. So thursday when students are arriving on campus, i get a phone call from my roommate, telling me we have five college days kids in our room. wonderful. then my roommate adds "i think one of the guys is from ft. wayne." as soon as i heard this, i immediately rushed back to my room. as i'm heading through the lobby in my building to get to the elevator, the world starts going in slow motion as i hear in a high-pitched, crackly voice "DAVE MANN!" i look up to see all 5 feet and three inches of kyle leichty running at me. in the middle of my residence building. at north central university. in downtown minneapolis. in minnesota. kyle leichty was jumping on me in the middle of minneapolis. not only that, kyle leichty was staying in my dorm room. in two years, i've had three people from back home see me at school, and kyle leichty is one of them. if you don't find this story funny, it's because you do not understand, to simply state it. pretty much my 24 hours with leichty were hilarious, and out of control. very out of control. it's nice to talk about inside jokes with someone, and to see a familiar face. glad you came man, hope you make the right choice for schools ; ) | | |
| last night i saw the midnight showing of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. all i can say is... wow. it is one of the closest movies to the book i've ever seen. i was very impressed. the gospel message was not watered down at ALL. this is a must see. | | |
| "Dear Dave,
